Detroit in the near future: After privatization of the police apparatus, crime fighting is in the hands of the mega-corporation OCP, who wants to take radical action against crime in the city with combat robots. When police officer Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is declared clinically dead after a failed deployment, the company uses Murphy's intact brain to create a massive police cyborg: RoboCop - half human, half machine - is said to ensure law and order on the streets.
